According to Wall Street Journal, the number one fear in America is public speaking and the fear of death is ranked number two. Yes, that’s right and we seem to be more afraid of public speaking rather than death, heights, bungee jumping, etc.
Fear of public speaking is also a kind of fear of death-emotional death. People who have fear of public speaking tend to have sweaty palm, feel nervous, speaks not clearly and don’t want to do public speaking bur rather do anything instead.
The fear of public speaking could affect your professional as well as personal life. However, there are tips and techniques to overcome your fear of public speaking.

Tips for reducing public speaking nervousness

1.       Don’t expect perfection from yourself: You must know that nobody is perfect. Some of us tend to be carried away by a simple mistakes rather than handling it effectively. Even the most successful professional speaker also makes mistakes in their public speaking or speech but they handle it quite well and move on gracefully. Keep this in mind while doing public speaking and don’t expect too much from your speech and all will be well.

2.       Avoid being nervous about your nervousness: People who lack confidence or practice become nervous and on top of that feel anxious on the fact that they are nervous. The flow of our adrenaline is nervousness and successful speakers know how to convert it into their energy. It is okay to be nervous and all the successful speakers also get nervous. So, don’t be nervous about your nervousness instead find a way to convert it into enthusiasm and charisma.

3.       Avoid equating public speaking to your self-worth: Public speaking is only a part of your professional life. Even if you are not good in public speaking don’t let it depress you and don’t think that only the public speaking ability determine your worth in public. There may be other things that you excel most in and through which you can be successful and be popular in public.

4.       Avoid trying to memorize every word: There is no need to memorize each and every word of your speech. Most of the audience can easily recognize if you have fear of public speaking or not and whether you are giving speech by memorizing each and every of word or not. Trying to memorize and giving speech is just stressing and can cause more nervous if you forgot just only one word of speech.

5.       Avoid reading word for word: Don’t read each and every line and its words from slide while doing public speaking or giving presentation. There is a vast difference between reading and speaking. Even though the audience might get information from your reading but they might lose interest in hearing your presentation. Speaking makes an impact on the audience perception of your personality and the content or topics on which you are speaking. If you are only reading you won’t know whether audience have understood your ideas or not and you will never reduce your nervousness of public speaking just reading only.

6.       Work on your breathing: Some people having fear of public speaking often have abnormal breathing which may also stir their voice and the audience easily know that he/she is nervous. So, work on your breathing as it will help your voice to be more resonance and you will relax. Breathe calmly and just go with the flow.

7.       Record your speech, listen and improvise: Record your practice speech in your recorder or in mobile phone. Then, listen or watch it and find out what are bad and good part of your presentation and improvise the part on which you are lacking something.

How to Prepare for an Exam


Most of the students have the habit of preparing for an exam two or three days before the exam and some students start to study only one day before an exam. These kinds of students normally face pressure such as whether they will complete all the important topics or not. There is no need to feel any stress or problem before exam. You can be always confident before exam by just following tips:

1.       Start reading early: First, determine how long it takes you to complete all the topics that will be on exam. If it takes you to complete 1 week, you can start reading two weeks before exam so that you will be confident enough to give exam. Don’t just start reading one day before the exam. Give yourself more than enough time to complete all the topics.

2.       Get some good notes: If you don’t have sufficient notes for the exam, you can ask your friends who is good at study and make neat and clean notes to borrow a note or you can do a photocopy of your friend notes. If you don’t have good notes, you will just be stuck in the middle of your study and the stress will develop. So, before starting to study, make sure that you have sufficient and good notes.

3.       Read all the topics written on notes and important for exam: Having good notes is not only good if you are not going to study them all. You have to study all the topics of note and if you read the topics that you think important than the other topics might come in exam and that is the nature of exam. So, study the entire notes that you have prepared.  

4.       Ask your teachers about the test materials: Teachers don’t tell the exact questions that might come in exam but they can tell about the model of question, topics that need to be covered for exam, which topics will be necessary for exam or not, etc. So, it is best for you to ask teacher about the test and the topics needed to be study for exam.

5.       Re-read your notes: Yes, re-read your notes. Reading notes only one time might not help you. It is not sure that you will understand all the things just reading once. So, re-read until you understand the concept of topics what you are reading.

6.       Take notes while you study: While studying notes, take notes of some topics that you are feeling difficult to understand, important topics that you think will come in exam and some topics mentioned by the teacher. Before the exam, it will be time consuming to review important topics from your notes which include all the topics important as well as not important. Therefore, take notes while you study.

7.       Review your syllabus: Syllabus includes all the topics that should be studied before the exam and that might come in exam. Syllabus also provides students information what topics should be studied and what not. Teachers teach students on the basis of syllabus, so, it is very important for students to review syllabus before exam.

8.       Write down the major topics that you find important in syllabus: Study the topics once again in your notes and books that you find important in the syllabus.

9.       Review study guides and sections: Most of the books at the end of each chapter have summary on important topics and questions as well as answers on some books. So, don’t forget to study and review that section of books.

10.   Make flash cards: Make flash cards for the topics or information that you are having difficult to understand and remember. In addition, you can carry the flashcards wherever you want and review it whenever you like it.

11.   Quiz yourself: You can ask your brothers, sisters or friends to ask questions from your notes, books and flash cards relevant to exam. In this way, you get to know how much you understand the topics of your notes and books. If there is anything that you had forgot, you can re-read and memorize it.

12.   Practice questions: For subjects like math and statistics, the more you practice the more you understand and gain confidence for exam.

13.   Review past questions: Collect the past questions and you can study the topics that have come in the exam before. Even though the past question might not come in exam but it will give you an idea on what type of question will be asked in what format in the exam.

14.   Go to class the day before the exam: Teacher generally provide information such as topics that need to be study, format of question and the most important topics.

15.   Study with a friend: Form a study group with your friends and study together and discuss the topics that might appear in the exam. This will help you to further understand the topics that you have read.

16.   Quiz each other: In a study group you can ask each other potential questions to each other and you might find some topics that you have forgot to study.

17.   Have a sound sleep: Scientist believe that a sound sleep is also one of the major factors determining a better test scores. So have a sound sleep before the exam and don’t stay all night studying.

In this age and modern life, stress management technique has become most essential skill to everyone. Nowadays, people are living and working in dynamic environment. The environment has changed dramatically from those of the past. People are facing more difficulties and challenges in workplace, market, society, and home as well. The skill to identify the cause of problem and overcome the cause is one of the key to stress reduction.
Stress is an ordinary and physical response to the situation which is demanding more and more from you. Everybody experiences stress sooner or later in life and it can affect you skill and ability to cope with life. That’s why we need supportive people around us who can help in stressful situation as well as self care. Stress can be good too as it helps to know what we are afraid of and in what sector we are weak and help us to develop skill to deal with difficult situations. But, if a person faces stress continually without relief breaks that is going to affect both physical and mental health. A continuous stressful situation can increase blood pressure, suppress immunity power, raise the risk of stroke and heart attack, speed up the aging process, etc.

I believe that the following are the stress management techniques or tips that you find helpful in your life.

1.       Avoid Caffeine, Alcohol and Nicotine: Taking alcohol and nicotine is not going to solve your problem. It is not ideal technique to solve problems. This is only going to make you forget about problem for some time. Instead of sitting idle drinking, you can think of a solution of a problem.

2.       Indulge in Physical Activity: More demanding situation increases the level of stress hormones (adrenaline) in your body. Therefore, try to do something physical work or exercise in order to balance the excess stress hormones which can help you to restore your body to normal. There is no need to do big things. You can just take a walk in fresh environment for a minute.

3.       Get More Sleep: Stress is also caused due to inadequate sleep. Even though, stress can take away our sleep as we keep thinking so many things which can’t be helped. Instead of taking medication for sleep, try to sleep naturally. You can avoid doing difficult works before going to bed. It is better to remove things that will remind you of bad memories. You can read books easy to understand to tire your eyes and sleep naturally.

4.       Try Relaxation Techniques: Relaxation techniques are one of the best stress management techniques. You can listen to music or watch a favorite movie or you can take a walk in a park or think of something positive such as love and peace.

5.       Talk to Someone: You can distract yourself from stressful situation by talking to someone. Be careful to whom you talk with. Talk to someone who understands your situation. Stressful situations affect your ability to judge things around you and can make the situation worst. So, it is best for you to talk to someone who is supportive.

6.       Take Control: Some people are intimidated or taken away by the problem and can’t think rationally. Don’t lose your calm and think of the causes of the problem and find the solution which is beneficial. Try to control your emotion and do things that are important instead of feeling bad for yourself.

7.       Manage your Time: Most of the people have the habit to do things in the last minute before deadline.  At that moment, people are confused with what things to do first and they are also afraid of not finishing works and some can’t finish their works which would lead only to stress and depression. Therefore, prepare your to do list in accordance to importance and take action.

8.       Learn to say No: One of the main causes of stress is not being able to say no. Most of the people can’t say no because they want to be liked by others. and, they accept to do those things that they don’t like which will only increase their level of stress.

9.       Rest if you are ill: You can ask somebody to do things for you if you can’t do it or ill. There is no need to force yourself to do things. That will make you feel more ill and you can’t do work properly due to illness and later you will regret and lead you toward stress.

Procrastination Problem: How to Stop Procrastination Habit

Procrastination is the practice of doing things that is more pleasurable and avoiding things that need to be accomplished. In other words, procrastination is the practice of keeping work for a later time. People tend to procrastinate until the last minute of deadline. Procrastination is the most common habit of people and had a great impact on success and happiness of life. It can also lead a person toward stress, guilt, depression, and self-doubt.

You have a due date approaching. On the other hand, rather than doing your work, you are fiddling with various things like checking email, online networking, watching recordings, surfing websites and gatherings. You know you ought to be working; however you simply don't have a craving for doing anything.

Postponing, putting off things, slacking, escaping work, confronting work just when it's unavoidable is procrastination phenomenon. It is a bad habit which leads our life toward stress, guilt and prevents us from achieving greater things. Therefore, don’t let habit of procrastination take over your life. I have mentioned below the tips to stop habit of procrastination that I have found in internet and some suggested by my friends:

1.       Break your work into little parts: The reason behind our procrastination habit is that we sub-consciously think work needed to be done as bothersome and not exciting at all. Therefore, try to break your work into little parts and work at one part of a work at a time which can make you feel that you can do easily the given work easily. You can also take a short break after completing part of the work.

2.       Change your environment: One of the factor that trigger our mood to do work or not is environment. Suppose the exam is coming near and you have to study but if your room is disorganized and your books and notes are not in proper place, will you have mood to study, of course not.  So, change your environment into one which will motivate to do things.

3.       Eliminate the things that help you to procrastinate: Figure out what is helping you to continue your procrastination habit such as facebook, movies, friends or anything or anybody. While you are doing your work or project it is better for you to stay away from these things and better turn off automatic notification of your smart phone.

4.       Hang out with people who motivate you to take action: Stay away from people who are lazy and always keep things for later. It is said that bad habit is learned faster than good habits. Try to spend more time with people who is very hardworking, can guide and help in doing things.

5.       Get a companion: Doing things alone and doing with a buddy can make a difference and make doing things interesting. Preferably, your pal ought to be somebody who has his/her own arrangement of objectives. Both of you will consider one another responsible to your objectives and plans. While it's a bit much for both of you to have the same objectives, it'll be shockingly better if that is the situation, so you can gain from one another.

6.       Tell others about your goals: If you tell about your goals to your family members, relative, friends, colleagues, and other people whom you know then they will ask certainly about your goal whenever you meet them. It is a great way to make yourself accountable.

7.       Seek out someone who has already had good results: Identify what you want to accomplish first? And try to find out people who had already achieved goal that you have set. If you find people who had already achieved goal same as yours that will motivate you to do things as your goal seems achievable and makes you think that if other can do that than why I can’t.

8.       Re-clarify your goals: If procrastination habit is in the way of doings then you are forgetting about your own goal and what you really want to do. So, try to think about your goals and what you really wanted to do and the reward and punishment of doing things or not doing.

9.       Don’t complicate things: Are you thinking that this is not a perfect time to do things? Are you waiting for a perfect time for doing things? Ditch that kind of thinking because there is no perfect time to do anything. It is you who takes the action and make things right or wrong. So, don’t complicate things and stop procrastination habit.

10.   Get a grip and just do it: At the end, you have to do things that you have been keeping for later time no matter what. No matter how you plan things, it doesn’t have value until you take action. Procrastination habit will only make things worse as you have to complete things just before deadline. So get a grip on yourself and do things needed to be done right now.


How to look attractive (Men)


There is nobody who doesn’t want to be popular and attractive and one person can’t be attractive to all the people. Some person may find attractive certain person but other’s may not. There are some ways to be attractive that anybody can follow:

1.       Grooming: It is good for health to practice good hygiene as well as appealing to others. Make your appearance neat, clean and tidy. Most of the women also prefer a man who is well groomed and smell nice.

·         Take bath every day and put deodorant after taking bath in the morning and make sure not to use too much of it.
·         Your impression also depends on how you smell so you need to use body spray too.
·         Men are likely to have more pimples than woman as they have more amount of testosterone. So, wash your face every morning and night with the face wash that suits your skin type.
·         Take care of your facial hair, whether you want to keep a beard or not make sure to groom it properly.
·         At least, once a week clean and trim your nails and brush your teeth every day.

2.       Styling Hair: Hairstyle is also one of the important factors that determine men attractiveness. Whether you decide to keep it long or short, it needs a proper care and trim the unnecessary hair that grows down the back of your neck.

·         Have your hair trimmed regularly to avoid split ends.
·         Wash your hair everyday works out the best for men and choose the best shampoo and best conditioner that suits your type of hair.
·         It is up to you whether to use hair products or not to style your hair and make it look shinier and healthier.
·         Choose the best hairstyle that best suits your face. For this, you can ask advice of your friends and hair stylist.

3.       Clothing:  You must have heard the phrase clothes make the man. It doesn’t mean that you need to wear expensive dress but you have to wear the dress that fit the structure of your body.

·         Wear the clothes that suits what you will be doing. Don’t wear anything lying around even for casual dressing.
·         Shop with a friend who dresses well and who have a sense of fashion because the mirror can’t tell all the things about you and the clothes that you are going to buy.
·         Wear clothes that suit your body structure. Don’t wear clothes that don’t suit you but looked good on celebrity.
·         Figure out what colors suit you and wear clothes of that color.
·         Do not wear dirty clothes even when you are staying home. Do your laundries twice or thrice time a week.


4.       Have an attractive presence: Do things that can make other people remember you. You can practice good posture. When you stand straight firmly, people perceive you as a confident person. The most important thing greet everybody with a smile. Be optimistic and find joy even in a bad aspect of life. When you are talking to other people make sure that they know you are interested in what they are saying by making eye contact. And, you don’t have to always wear a suit or formal dress to be a gentle man. You just need to say “please, thank you, excuse me” and open and hold the door for other people to pass by. Besides, make sure that you are talking fluently while talking to someone. If you can’t speak fluently, sharpen your conversation skill and speak words clearly and carefully.

5.       Take care of your body: In a college/office, if you are most of the times absent because of sickness, you will be perceived as a weak person and your attractiveness will be decreased.
·         Stick to a healthy diet, avoid junk foods, and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

How to be more friendly and social?


If you are a shy person and face difficulty and feel awkward with talking to people, you are on a right place. What kinds of people are friendly and social? I believe those friendly and social people are very excited to meet new people and to whom other wants to talk to and can easily talk to new people while waiting for bus, in the airport, in the line at the drugstore and wherever they are stuck.
Can you make friends in a short time or it takes too long to make friends? Do you find very hard to talk to new people when you switch jobs to new place, transfer to new school or migrate to new place.

If this is the case then you don’t need to worry because I have some tips for you to be more friendly and social. They are discussed in the following points:

1.       Smile more: In order to become more friendly and social person, you don’t need to smile to each and every person you see. But, you have to make effort to smile more to people you greet, or to someone you know. So, smile more in appropriate situation when you are having conversation which will make you appear approachable and friendly.

2.       Start talking with new people: It is true that we don’t have much to talk with new people. Greeting new people by saying hi or asking their name and at the end saying nice meeting you can make a difference in how you appear to other people. So, make an effort to talk to new people.

3.       Talk to people you already know: If you meet someone you knew in the street or passing by someone house you knew, then stop by to talk to them or you can just greet them and ask about their condition. This kind of little things let other people to know that you care for them and you are interested in their activity which will make you more friendly and social person.

4.       Invite people to do things with you/group: Being more friendly and social means spending time more with people around us. For that, invite your friends or relative if there is some a program or celebration party in your house.

5.       Go to where the people are: Don’t try to spend time alone at work place or at the party and try to do things what all other people are doing if you think that is harmless. If you sit idle in one place at the party or any other place, you will be considered unsociable person. So, go to where people are.

6.       Have nice gestures towards other people: Opening door to people, bringing foods or drinks in party to other people makes you more friendly and social person. But, do not try too much to impress other people because you may be taken advantage of the situation.

7.       Compliment others: Complimenting people is also one of the sign of friendly person. Don’t be shy to compliment others when you really mean it. Just a small compliment will make you look like more friendly and social person and people will consider you a nice person and appear approachable to others.

8.       Make sure not to bore people who are around you: Without being a pest, make some efforts to make sure that everyone is having a good time when you’re out with people. Give your own opinion and if someone is left out of conversation, make some efforts to make them participate in conversation. If somebody doesn’t like things you are doing, then it is better to stop it or you can explain them and ask them to do it if you believe that they are going to love it once they try.

9.       Open up: Becoming more friendly and social also means sharing things about you as well. You don’t have to share your deepest and darkest secrets. But, you reveal things about yourself little bit embarrassing as well which makes other people think that you are comfortable talking about yourself and other people. You can open up about childhood memories, something you have always wanted to do, funny mistake you did and anything which can help you to become more friendly and social.
